Daniel Dye’s impersonation of David Malukas resulted in an immediate suspension from NASCAR and Kaulig Racing. However, it was announced that he would be reinstated as he completed the mandatory sensitivity training.
He was suspended indefinitely on March 17 by both NASCAR and Kaulig Racing after he made an insensitive impression of David Malukas while recounting their meeting during a live stream on the Whatnot platform.
His mocking of the Team Penske IndyCar driver did not go down well with many fans and members of the community. While he had issued an initial apology, saying he meant “no harm,” he was mandated to undergo sensitivity training.

While the turnaround time on his suspension was just about two weeks, he has ended up losing his seat with Kaulig Racing, with the team, including all the sponsors, reportedly against putting Dye back into the seat.
Right after the news of his reinstatement was announced, Dye announced that he would not be racing with the team any longer, as he would be stepping away for a while.
Dye posted a message on X, thanking Kaulig Racing and appreciating his time in NASCAR, looking ahead to a brighter future.
“I’m incredibly thankful for my time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and for the chance to compete with Kaulig Racing alongside some of the most passionate fans in motorsport. At this time, I am stepping away from that role,” he said in the statement.

Dye’s request to step away was immediately accepted by Kaulig, and they have already replaced him by adding Corey Lajoie.
“After a lot of honest self-reflection and guidance from mentors I trust, I’ve decided the smartest move for my career is to re-align my focus on my long-term objective of becoming a successful driver at the highest level of stock car racing,” said Dye in a message.
His last race was at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Dye finished 15th, just around 48 hours before he was suspended.
“This sport and its fans mean everything to me, and I can’t wait to get back to it focused on the real goal more than ever,” wrote Dye with an optimistic outlook towards his future in the sport.
While there will be doubts about his future, the driver will have to work on his off-track issues before he returns to racing.
