Scott McLaughlin spots possible tornado at Iowa Speedway during IndyCar practice

Sirens have been blaring at Iowa Speedway and IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin spotted a possible tornado in the distance from the track. The IndyCar doubleheader is having a bit of an issue with the weather at this time. Wild scenes at Iowa today.

A tornado warning was issued and lifted for the area. However, there is still bad weather in the area. It is unclear if a tornado touched down near the track, but Scott McLaughlin definitely caught a possible tornado forming in this picture.

Scott McLaughlin and Team Penske have had a heck of a season, and not in a good way. Should this storm and the possible tornado be a bad or a good omen? Is it a sign of more bad fortune for Penske or perhaps a washing away of the negativity that has plagued them in 2025?

This weekend is one of the favorites for IndyCar fans. Last year, fans did complain that NASCAR’s repave in certain portions of the track has made the open-wheel race not nearly as exciting. We will see if that continues to be a talking point this weekend. Both days of racing should be packed with fans who showed out in full force the last two seasons.

Possible tornado ends IndyCar activities for Friday

Iowa Speedway has shut down the on-track activities for the day. IndyCar and Iowa Speedway officials do not want fans messing around with these possible tornadoes and storms in the area. Best to move on to tomorrow and hope for better weather.

This IndyCar season has been eventful. Alex Palou is the clear favorite to win the championship again. With the lack of success from Penske, Kyle Kirkwood has risen as the only legitimate challenger at this point in the season.

This doubleheader weekend at Iowa could tighten up the championship battle. Palou’s Indy 500 win this season is his only oval victory in his career. Palou was P8 at Gateway earlier this season at the second oval race on the schedule. After Iowa this week, Milwaukee is the only oval left on the schedule. Only seven more races left in the season.
