Checked bag fees can be pricey, and most of us tend to over-pack anyway. Consider sticking to carry-on luggage for your vacation, and only pack the essentials. Your personal item, like a backpack, can also be used as a spot to pack anything that doesn't fit in your suitcase.

Trips to the souvenir shop can add up quickly, and that often means bringing home a bunch of tchotchkes that you don't even really like. Set a budget for one or two souvenirs, perhaps something you can use for years, like a Christmas ornament commemorating your vacation or a fun piece of decor that actually fits into your home's aesthetic.

Going out to eat for every meal can really add a ton of cost to a vacation, and that expense can be significantly minimized with one trip to a grocery store once you arrive. Stocking up on snacks is a great way to save, as is cooking a few meals at home if you're staying in an Airbnb or hotel with a kitchenette.
