Summer makeup is upon us. Here are some easy tips to keep you looking great all season long.

Use tinted sunscreen

Tinted sunscreen is one of the most underrated beauty products. It melts into the skin and kills two birds with one stone. It’s light while still providing a little bit of coverage. It’s buildable, lays well under other products, and is perfect for a day spent outside.

Try a tinted moisturizer

If you want something with a little more coverage than a tinted sunscreen but isn’t too heavy, use a tinted moisturizer. It provides a glowy coverage that makes your skin look natural yet flawless, and it won’t melt off on a hot summer day.

Cover with only concealer

Summer makeup is about looking as natural as possible, and one way to achieve that is by using concealer as your main base product. Conceal under your eyes and over blemishes, and apply some in the T-zone if you want just a bit more coverage, but keep it light and sparse for a natural finish.

Find a lengthening mascara

For a more natural look in the summertime, utilize a basic lengthening mascara. It will give your lashes the pop you’re looking for while maintaining a natural finish. Just a few swipes from the base of your lashes will make a world of difference without looking overdone.

Master tightlining

Tightlining your eyes can take some practice, but once you master it, it’s great for summer makeup looks. It naturally defines your eyes, and it’s much quicker than drawing a wing.

Find a good brow gel

Whether you opt for a clear or tinted product, find a good brow gel for the summer. A brow gel will define your brows and keep them in place all day with just a few swipes of the product.

Find a poppin’ highlighter

If you can’t get a summer glow from the sun, get one from a highlighter. There are so many good highlighters available that it’s a crime not to use one. Find a shade or two you love to use on your cheekbones, the bridge and tip of your nose, the brow bones, and the inner corner of your eyes to frame your face.

Learn the difference between bronzing and contouring

Bronzing and contouring are similar, but there are some distinctions. While contouring shapes your face with a matte shadowing product, bronzing highlights the natural points where the sun would hit your face with a shimmery product.

Use cream blush

Powder products have their place, but for a more natural look in the summer, use cream products. A cream blush is easy to apply and will add a super subtle touch of color to your face.

Set with a spray

Setting with powder creates a porcelain look, but setting with a spray helps keep things more natural. Opt for the setting spray for a classic, glowy summertime makeup look. Get a mini size and keep it with you for a refresh throughout the day.

Use neutrals for eyeshadow

For the summer nights when you want full glam, stick to neutrals for eyeshadow. You can still get a striking smoky eye and serve a look with neutrals, but they’ll come off just a little softer and more appropriate for the season.

Choose either shadow or liner

For those full glam moments, opt for either shadow or liner instead of both. Both can come off too harsh for the season, but choosing just one will still create a beautiful makeup look that’s befitting of summer. Choosing just one will take less time, too, which is always a win.

Try a clear gloss

Finding a my-lips-but-better product is tough, but a clear gloss can solve that problem. A clear gloss will still enhance your lips, but in a natural way that’s quick and easy. You can also use a clear gloss for a unique eye look, so it’s well worth the investment.

Get a wax tip applicator

Summer makeup also means good festival looks, and good festival looks require jewels. Jewels can be super hard to apply, especially with precision, but the application is made much easier with a wax tip applicator. If you want to wear jewels even once, it’s worth the money.

Utilize bright colors

If you have bright shades in your makeup arsenal that you’ve been wanting to use, now is the time. Bright colors are perfect for summer makeup looks when you want something fun that doesn’t require too much time or too many products. Opt for a purple highlighter or an orange lip to shake things up.

Use colorful eyeliners

Wear a colorful eyeliner if you want a fun eye look but don’t want to spend time blending your lid to death. It acts as a perfect pop of color that looks great and isn’t too time-consuming.

Use your hands

Our hands are some of our greatest tools, especially when we want natural looks. By applying products with your hands, makeup melts better into your skin, and you’ll use less product as it won’t absorb into a blender or a brush.

Use a primer

A primer may seem like an unnecessary product, but it’s vital in the summer. It locks your makeup in from underneath so it doesn’t melt away in the hot sun.

Find a waterproof mascara

Whether you’re jumping in the water or spending the day in the sun, moisture of some sort is likely to hit you. Combat runny mascara by getting a waterproof product. Use an oil-based makeup remover to get it off at the end of the day.

It’s summer. Everyone is going to get oily, but you don’t have to stay oily. Carry some oil blotting sheets with you to retain your glow without looking greasy. They work great and will keep your face flawless all day.
