20 delicious snacks from the '90s you probably forgot about

Some things about the '90s we want to forget, but others, like these 20 snack items, we need to spend more time actively thinking about.

Kid Cuisine

Kid Cuisine was technically more of a meal than a snack, but it offered such little amounts of food that it should have been considered a snack. These babies came in dozens of flavors, each less exciting than the last.

Fruit Roll-Ups

The '90s had a unique ability to take something typically considered healthy (fruit) and turn it into an unhealthy candy (Fruit Roll-Ups). This snack is still available today, but unless you have kids, you probably aren't purchasing them anymore.

Pop Rocks

Both the idea and the execution of Pop Rocks were confounding, and the idea and execution of Pop Rocks were excellent. We can all still imagine that strange feeling of Pop Rocks doing their … thing in our mouths.

Little Hugs Fruit Barrels

Little Hugs Fruit Barrels were the perfect-sized drink. There was something so satisfying about finishing one of those flavorful little offerings. More drinks should come in bottles shaped like other items that hold beverages.

Dunkaroos

One thing that snacks of today lack is a fun name. There are plenty of snacks in existence today that offer a main item and something to dip it in, but none of them are nearly as fun to say as Dunkaroos.

Oreo O's

The '90s and early 2000s were chock-full of cereal versions of cookies and candies, just like Oreo O's. These days, we don't have enough cereals that simply don't need to exist, and it's a travesty. To any cereal developers, we implore you to create more options like Oreo O's.

Bagel Bites

If a snack item has the word "bites" in it, it's infinitely more likely to sell. We're not sure about the science on that, but we’re willing to bet it’s true, given the success of Bagel Bites in the '90s. There could've been other reasons they were popular, but their name had to have been part of it.

Planters Cheez Balls

Objectively speaking, there's nothing special about Planters Cheez Balls. They're just puffy little balls of cheese, no different than any other puffy little ball of cheese for sale today. But those things had people in a proverbial chokehold a couple of decades ago.

3D Doritos

Technically speaking, all Doritos are three-dimensional, but from a marketing standpoint, 3D Doritos are going to sell much better than Puffy Doritos or any other name the snack could've been given. These funny little chips are still available in some stores.

Gushers

If you haven't forgotten about any snack item on this list, it's likely Gushers. These are still in existence, and they're still just as good. Little sugary morsels that literally burst with flavor when biting into them? Of course, they've stood the test of time.

Capri Sun

Capri Sun tastes good and is a blast to drink. There's nothing more satisfying than punching that inexplicably hard straw through the Capri Sun pouch, and there's nothing more fun than inflating and deflating the pouch with air after you've finished it.

Snack Pack Pudding

Snack Pack Pudding is proof that you can take any food that's existed for centuries and market it as a snack, and you can make money. There's nothing special about what's inside Snack Pack Pudding because it's just regular old pudding. But it's popular nevertheless.

Fruit by the Foot

Fruit Roll-Ups were simply not enough. Kids in the '90s needed an entire foot of dehydrated fruit candy. Did anyone ever measure Fruit by the Foot to see just how honest those marketers were? We should've checked, but we were too distracted.

French Toast Crunch

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is still one of the tastiest breakfast cereals available, but we won’t soon forget its funny sibling, French Toast Crunch. And we don’t have to because, in 2014, this cereal came back into circulation. If the general public wants something bad enough, it has the power to get it.

Ring Pops

We'll never know why snack developers thought kids were missing diamond-shaped lumps of hard sugar to sit on their fingers, but we're glad those developers had the vision no one else had. Ring Pops are a veritable rite of passage.

Push Pops

Like all lollipops, Push Pops are quite sticky, but they’re great in theory. And no matter how sticky they are, they're fun to eat. More food should be able to be pushed up and down.

Cosmic Brownies

No homemade brownie will ever compare to a Cosmic Brownie. The bizarre texture, strange frosting, and tasteless candy topping make for one delicious little snack. You probably haven't eaten one for years, but you still know exactly what it tastes like.

Gogurt

Gogurt is a hilarious concept. The makers of this snack thought that kids were so desperate to eat yogurt but simply didn't have the time to sit down and have some, so they put it in a tube and thought it would sell. Turns out, it did.

Ritz Bits

Ritz was right to make Ritz Bits. Pretty much every snack is better when it's in a mini form, and Ritz Bits is the epitome of that phenomenon. If you forgot that Ritz Bits exist, you need to go to the nearest convenience store and purchase a bag immediately.

Bubble Tape

Some might've seen Bubble Tape when it first came out and asked why. To those people, we say, why not? Why shouldn’t our gum be packaged as if it were a roll of tape? The one thing that’s missing from most food is whimsy, and Bubble Tape isn't going to be victim to that.

Vikings WR gets brutal injury news for second straight season

A Minnesota Vikings wide receiver's season is already over. The Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday that wide receiver Rondale Moore is being placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a leg injury that he suffered in the team's first preseason game against the Houston Texans this past weekend. It is a devastating blow for Moore who is now being sidelined for an entire season, before it even begins, for the second year in a row. Moore signed a one-year, $2 million contract in free agency with the Vikings this offseason in the hopes he could return from a different injury that cost him the entirety of the 2024 season. Moore was a member of the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 after being acquired in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for backup quarterback Desmond Ridder. This is now two different teams that Moore has been a part of but will never play a game for them due to injuries. Moore was injured while returning a punt. He began his career with the Arizona Cardinals, catching 135 passes for 1,201 yards over three seasons before being traded. He was never going to be counted on to be a key contributor for the Vikings offense this season, especially given the superstars they already have at wide receiver in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, but he still had a chance to be an interesting depth player. Now it is fair to wonder what the rest of his career might even look like. Missing two full seasons due to two different leg injuries is going to be a brutal thing to try to come back from. Missing two seasons for any reason is difficult, but when you add the leg injuries to the equation, it makes the obstacle even steeper.

Jets QB Justin Fields had 'alarming' practice against Giants

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields found out he has a long way to go following his performance at Tuesday's joint practice with the New York Giants. Per Connor Hughes of SNY TV, Fields started hot at the practice before struggling during the move-the-ball period. "Very interesting practice for #Jets QB Justin Fields," Hughes posted on X. "He finished 7 of 12 with a TD. 5 of 5 to start practice. Then 0 for 4. Finished 2 of 3 with the really impressive TD to Jeremy Ruckert in red zone (starter 18 yard line). "The offensive performance was a bit alarming in move-the-ball period of practice. Fields Co. had three attempts to get down field. They didn’t gain a first down. Only gained yards twice (two short Breece Hall runs). Three sacks. That needs to be fixed. #Giants defense toyed with NYJ during that period." Some Jets fans online thought Hughes was using hyperbole to characterize the practice, but he doubled down on his judgment of the offense. Fields looked strong on his first and only drive in the Jets' 30-10 win over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night. He went 3-of-4 passing for 42 yards and rushed two times for 14 yards and a touchdown. However, the Giants defense at the joint practice is a much better unit than the short-handed one the Packers trotted out for the first preseason game. Fields' issues seen with the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers, with holding the ball too long and not being able to pass consistently downfield, were a factor against the Giants. Following Saturday's game, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Fields was getting better but had a lot to improve on. Tuesday's practice was a humbling reminder that Fields needs to become a consistent passer if the Jets are going to move the ball on good defenses in the regular season.

Bryson DeChambeau divulges Scottie Scheffler's biggest advantage

We all know Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer on the planet by a fairly large margin, but what makes him so much more consistent than other stars in professional golf? Bryson DeChambeau, one of Scheffler's biggest rivals in major championships, thinks he knows the answer. In Tuesday's appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," DeChambeau detailed how Scheffler dominates the PGA Tour weekly. "He's got the best spin and distance control I've ever seen," DeChambeau said. "He controls the golf ball from a spin perspective so much better than everybody else. Like, if you're 175 yards out, and it's 10 miles [an hour] into the wind, he knows how to control the flight and spin to get that ball to land right next to the hole every time. Probably since Tiger [Woods], he's the best that we've seen." The stats confirm DeChambeau's breakdown. Scheffler has ranked first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach in three straight seasons. He also ranks first in proximity to the hole and greens in regulation percentage over the last four years. Iron play is Scheffler's superpower, but it wasn't always that way. "I played with him in college a bunch, and I've said it before, but he's definitely improved since college for sure," DeChambeau said with a chuckle. "It's impressive to see what he's done, and we're all aspiring to do that. That's something I've gotta get better at. I can hit it farther than him. I can hit it probably straighter than him. I can make just as many putts as him, but, really, it's about my iron play right now and wedges to get a little more consistent." Iron play is the biggest indicator of success in professional golf. If you're giving yourself more birdie chances from close range than anyone in the field, you're going to have the best chance to win by Sunday afternoon. No one is better at hitting specific distances more consistently than Scheffler. Just look at how accurate he is. DeChambeau has the best chance to catch Scheffler as the best player in the world because he's elite off the tee and on the greens, but that won't happen unless he makes a major improvement to his iron game.

'He's different': Vikings' J.J. McCarthy gets compared to future Hall of Famer

Before Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones shared a locker room with quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Jones and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2017 through the 2022 season. Jones recently claimed that he sees some of Rodgers in McCarthy heading into what could become a franchise-altering campaign for the Vikings. "[McCarthy] is a very, very hungry and driven player, but also a leader," Jones explained, Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame shared. "He’s different. In terms of the smarts, I put him in that category with Aaron Rodgers, in terms of how smart he is and really having an understanding for the game." That's high praise considering Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP and a Super Bowl MVP who is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. That said, nobody knows what McCarthy will be as a pro after the 2024 first-round draft pick spent his first NFL season recovering from a meniscus repair. McCarthy returned to the playing field when he completed four of seven pass attempts for 30 yards in Minnesota's 20-10 preseason win over the Houston Texans on Saturday. He also tested his surgically-repaired knee when he used his legs to pick up a first down on a fourth-and-4 situation in the game's first quarter. Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell could've pushed for the club to re-sign Sam Darnold after he guided Minnesota to a 14-3 record last season. O'Connell and Co. had "conversations" about possibly signing Rodgers before McCarthy received the keys to the Minnesota offense ahead of training camp. Jones seems to believe O'Connell and Co. made the right call. "He’s been amazing," Jones added about McCarthy. "I’m honestly confident in what we have here. I feel like we have everything we need, all the pieces we need here. I feel like J.J. is going to surprise a lot of people." As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Vikings seventh among the betting favorites at +1100 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LX. It will be interesting to see how McCarthy handles the pressure when Minnesota opens the regular season with a "Monday Night Football" matchup at the Chicago Bears on Sept. 8.
