Heinz and Smoothie King Team Up for a Sweet and Tangy Ketchup Drink

Tomatoes are a weird food. Yes, they are technically a fruit because of how they grow and house their seeds in the middle, just like apples and oranges. But, from a flavor perspective, tomatoes function more like a veggie, playing well with carrots, peppers, and many other vegetables. So, that’s why the news that Heinz and Smoothie King are teaming up to create a tomato-based smoothie with ketchup weirdness.

This sounds like a very unfunny joke, but it is not. Heinz describes it as the first of its kind which “blends real fruits with Heinz Simply Tomato Ketchup to create a delicious and refreshing summer sip.” The name for it is simple: Heinz Tomato Ketchup Smoothie.

I guess, if you think about it, ketchup itself is sort of like a distant cousin to a tomato smoothie. If you’re wondering whether this will simply be ketchup blended with ice for a tomato-flavored frozen treat, then you can rest assured that’s not the case.

The Heinz’s Tomato Ketchup Smoothie at Smoothie King “blends sweet Acai sorbet, crisp apple juice, juicy strawberries, and tart raspberries” with that infamous condiment. The finish is supposedly sweet, tangy, and fruity.

It is currently available to purchase now; however, access to this tomato smoothie is limited. You can find it in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami, and parts of the greater NY area and northern New Jersey. That’s one way to continue celebrating these hot summer days, we guess…
