The Penn State football team is well into its strength cycle for the summer, and it doesn’t take an explanation when looking at all of the “Iron Lion” apparel that fills up the Lasch Building weight room.

A carousel of pictures was shared by the program on their Instagram handle on June 27, showing athletes on the team working hard with a multitude of exercises.

“One day at a time,” said the caption.

Dumbbell, bar, and cable workouts were the staples. One athlete was also spotted with chains across their shoulders, most likely performing pull-ups.c

As per 247 Sports, Strength coach Chuck Losey has been leading players through a summer program designed to get them ready heading into training camp, with an evaluation and testing week typically capping the cycle in late July.

These position-group workouts have involved the defensive line, linebackers, and offensive line, ensuring that the lifting sessions are all-team rather than individual.

And this offseason, before the 2026 season arrives, is very important for the team.

Why This Offseason Matters for the Penn State Football Team

As per Sports Illustrated, Penn State starts the 2026 campaign with an entirely revamped roster after almost 40 players have been added via the transfer portal to join the returnees from last season’s squad.

As stated by head coach Matt Campbell, this will be the first time the team has the opportunity to figure things out with the new roster, noting that it would be important to “really understand what we are” following the offseason moves.

This means that not only will these summer workouts give the new guys and returning starters time to get to know each other, but they will also lay the foundation for their physical abilities for fall practice.

Penn State kicks off its 2026 campaign on September 5 against the Marshall Thundering Herd at Beaver Stadium, with the program expected to enter the year ranked among the Top 25 in the country.

Every bit of work in the weight room this summer would be crucial, as it is how linemen, linebackers, and skill players alike try to distinguish themselves before camp battles.

Do you think they will win their first game?
