In 2025, the Texas Tech Red Raiders finished with a below-.500 record. While it was a mostly good year for the offense, Texas Tech didn’t get the reciprocal results from the pitching staff. Heading into 2026, TTU will bring back several players from the 2025 lineup, including Logan Hughes,
Junior Logan Hughes bashed a team-high 19 home runs in what was a sensational year for the 20-year-old. Hughes posted a 1.107 OPS, walked (26) more than he struck out (24), and had 36 extra-base hits in total. He also held his own in the Cape, as Hughes hit three home runs and five total extra-base hits over 24 games.
Hughes headlines a Texas Tech team that’ll look different, at least compared to what the team had in 2025. Still, there are some not-so-fresh faces in Lubbock.
Robin Villenueve, who blasted 12 home runs and led TTU in OPS (1.108), is back for 2026.
Texas Tech also returned two other notable regular hitters from last season. Outfielder Kyeler Thompson walked 26 times and stole a team-high 29 bases for the Red Raiders last year. Senior Tracer Lopez, who batted .299 and hit five home runs, is also back.
Coleman Ryan and Jace Souza are among the other returning position players.
As for the pitching staff, the Red Raiders will get back Will Jordan and Connor Mohan. Both were freshmen last year, and both saw regular work as relievers last season. Jordan struck out 24 over 19 innings last year, while Mohan — who also started six games — struck out 17 and walked 18 over 30 innings.
Logan Addison and Jorden Espinoza are also returnees for 2026. Espinoza pitched in eight games for the program last year.
The Yankees picked off three Red Raiders pitchers from 2025. Jack Cebert, who worked primarily as a reliever after he was a starter at USF, was drafted in the 15th round. Ty Boudreau, who finished second on the team in strikeouts (49) last season, was signed as a UDFA.
Mac Heuer, drafted two years earlier by the Guardians, was scooped up in the eighth round despite an uneven college career. Speaking of the Guardians, Cleveland nabbed Zane Petty in 2025.
As for the offense, Damian Bravo is gone. Bravo is now a Giants prospect, as San Francisco picked him in the 15th round after a strong 2025 season. The 22-year-old hit .330 with 13 home runs and 28 extra-base hits last season with the Red Raiders.
The offense got a nice piece back in former Maryland slugger Hollis Porter. Porter slugged 21 home runs with the Terrapins last year, and he wasn’t the only notable Maryland hitter to leave the program this past summer.
Eleven freshmen are also a part of TTU’s 2026 roster. One of them is two-way player Linkin Garcia, who showcased a very strong arm in high school, hitting the mid-90s as a Florida prepster.
Texas Tech teams have, generally, been very good in the power department. Sluggers like Jace Jung and Gavin Kash, both of whom suited up for TTU during the decade, are examples of that mantra.
On paper, the Red Raiders have the opportunity to be a very exciting team on paper, at least offensively. To do better than 2025, Texas Tech will need reliable pitching.
