The latest injury report on April 7 saw several notable players, including M’s outfielder Victor Robles and a hot Ivan Herrera, hit the injured list. However, perhaps the most notable news of the day came in Seattle, as Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti suffered a freak injury during batting practice.
The Astros lost one of their key starters on April 7. Right-hander Spencer Arrighetti suffered a broken thumb during batting practice before their game against the Mariners after taking a ball to his throwing hand.
The Astros didn’t state how long Arrighetti will be out. However, it’s virtually assured he’ll head to the IL, adding another notable starter to that list.
As of this writing, Cristian Javier, Lance McCullers Jr., Luis Garcia, and J.P. France are on the injured list. Garcia was moved to the 60-day IL on April 7. McCullers Jr., though, is on a rehab assignment.
The Cardinals saw two notable IL moves on April 7. One was pitcher Zach Thompson, who was moved to the 60-day IL as he recovers from a shoulder strain. The other was Ivan Herrera, out with left knee inflammation.
Herrera was off to a torrid start, as he batted .381 with four home runs over his first seven games. The St. Louis catcher, as of the injury, led the National League in slugging percentage (1.048).
Yohel Pozo was recalled to take his spot. The Cardinals, per manager Oli Marmol, do not plan on using Willson Contreras behind the plate.
Mariners outfielder Victor Robles was officially diagnosed with a shoulder dislocation and was placed on the IL. The move comes a day after Robles made an incredible catch in San Francisco, as he made up ground extremely fast to catch a ball in the AT&T Park right field netting.
Details beyond that, however, are scarce.
George Springer returned to the Blue Jays’ lineup after missing Toronto’s game on April 6. Springer left the game on April 5 after running into the right field wall at Citi Field.
Red Sox catcher Connor Wong left Boston’s game on April 7 with what was diagnosed as a fractured pinky. It occurred when Wong’s glove collided with George Springer, on a play called catcher’s interference.
Orioles pitcher Albert Suarez was transferred to the 60-day IL. Baltimore acquired pitcher Grant Wolfram from the Brewers in exchange for Daz Cameron.
Pirates infielder Jared Triolo was placed on the 15-day IL with a lumbar spine strain.
