The Astros have stayed highly competitive this season despite significant injuries. Yordan Alvarez has missed over three months of the 2025 MLB season but could be back very soon. The slugger is ready for a rehab assignment.
Yordan Alvarez will begin a rehab assignment next week, as the slugger will report to Double-A Corpus Christi to work his way back to game action. The news was confirmed by Astros manager Joe Espada.
It’ll help him put months of rehab behind Alvarez, who last played on May 2. The Astros slugger has dealt with misdiagnosis of a hand injury and a slow ramp-up before game action.
General manager Dana Brown stated earlier on the 17th that Alvarez could return as early as this coming weekend.
Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on August 19. The left-hander will work with Oklahoma City (AAA).
Scott, recovering from an elbow injury, has not pitched since July 21.
The Rangers placed Jon Gray on the IL with Thoracic outlet syndrome (officially listed as right shoulder nerve irritation) on August 17. The team gave no timetable.
According to the New York Times, Gray was placed on waivers earlier this week but was not claimed. He last pitched on August 16.
Additionally, the Rangers placed utilityman Sam Haggerty on the IL with left ankle inflammation.
Braves pitcher Chris Sale threw four innings for Gwinnett (AAA) on August 17. Sale threw 56 pitches and maxed out at 97 MPH, averaging 94 MPH with his two fastballs.
Yankees reliever Jonathan Loaisiga tossed a scoreless inning for Scranton (AAA). He struck out one and topped out at 97 MPH.
Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer will undergo wrist surgery and miss the rest of this season.
The Cardinals placed Victor Scott II (left ankle sprain) on the 10-day IL. He left yesterday’s game against the Yankees after sustaining the injury.
Colton Cowser (Orioles), Aaron Nola, Alec Bohm, and Daniel Robert (Phillies) were activated off the injured list.
