The Blue Jays and Cubs were among the teams that provided updates on notable injured players on September 9. Bo Bichette will be out for at least the next week. Kyle Tucker, meanwhile, hit the injured list thanks to a calf injury that kept him over the last few days.
The Blue Jays officially placed Bo Bichette on the 10-day IL with a left knee sprain. It’s retroactive to September 7.
As noted this past weekend, Bichette suffered the injury sliding into Austin Wells at home plate. Manager John Schneider stated that Bichette will rest this week, and the team did not put a timeframe on a return.
Additionally, Anthony Santander‘s rehab assignment has been delayed temporarily. The team stated that his back tightened up while swinging, while he was preparing to return to game action.
The Cubs placed Kyle Tucker on the 10-day IL with a left calf strain, retroactive to September 7.
The team expressed confidence that Tucker would return shortly after the injury. That, obviously, did not happen. Tucker felt discomfort again on September 9, prompting the IL placement.
Tucker will be eligible to return from the IL next week.
The Red Sox placed Dustin May on the 15-day IL with right elbow neuritis, retroactive to September 6.
No structural damage was found in an MRI.
Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan went 0-1 with three walks for Springfield (AA). It’s the first game for Donovan on his rehab assignment. He played second base for the first six innings before leaving for a defensive sub.
Orioles outfielder Tyler O’Neill went 1-4 with a strikeout for Norfolk (AAA).
Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-4 in his return to the Royals’ lineup on the 9th. He missed the Royals’ last three games with a back injury. Kansas City, though, placed Michael Wacha on the 7-day concussion IL.
Rockies infielder Warming Bernabel went on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
The Astros announced that Brandon Walter and John Rooney both require elbow surgeries, ending their 2025 seasons. Luis Garcia, who just returned from TJ surgery, left his start on September 9 thanks to an elbow injury.
Paul Goldschmidt did not play on September 9. Goldschmidt missed the first game of the Yankees’ series with Detroit after coming in as a defensive sub two days earlier.
Rhys Hoskins (Brewers), Jonathan India (Royals), Michael King (Padres), Jose Siri (Mets), and Alex Vesia (Dodgers) were activated off the IL.
