The last day of the 2025 MLB regular season saw many players from playoff-bound teams get rest. On top of that, there was some injury-related news on the Mariners and Blue Jays, the top two seeds in the American League.
Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor did not play on September 28, the last game for the M’s before Game 1 of the ALDS. Naylor, who suffered a groin injury on the 26th, sat out the final two games of the regular season.
As for Bryan Woo, president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto stated that the Mariners will wait until the right-hander throws a bullpen session before deciding whether he’ll be available for the ALDS.
The good news is that Dipoto stated that the team feels good about his availability.
Woo left his last regular-season start with pectoral inflammation.
Before the Blue Jays’ game on September 28, manager John Schneider stated that Bo Bichette would not have been available for the Wild Card round.
That point is moot, as the Blue Jays won to lock up the AL East title on the 28th. Toronto will skip to the ALDS.
As for what will come after the Wild Card round, Schneider has hope that he can return for the ALDS. Bichette has yet to resume running.
Houston placed infielder Jeremy Pena on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain.
Pena last played on September 20. He was one of several notable Astros to miss the final week because of injury.
The Brewers activated reliever Trevor Megill from the 15-day IL. Megill struck out two over a scoreless frame on the 28th. He was placed on the IL in late August with a flexor strain.
Additionally, the Brewers activated DL Hall.
The Phillies activated infielder Trea Turner from the 10-day IL. Turner got two at-bats before he was subbed out for Otto Kemp. Bryson Stott moved over to short to take over for Turner.
Minnesota activated Anthony Misiewicz from the injured list.
