More players have been shut down, as Lucas Erceg and Martin Perez are done for the year. Meanwhile, in San Diego, the Padres should get their starting shortstop back next week, just in time for the final week of the regular season.
The Padres are expecting to activate Xander Bogaerts on September 22, the first day of their upcoming series against the Brewers.
Bogaerts has been on the injured list since late August with a foot fracture. Jake Cronenworth, who came up as a shortstop, started 10 games at short this month for San Diego.
Lucas Erceg‘s 2025 season officially ends thanks to a shoulder injury. The Royals reliever was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
Erceg struck out 48 over 61 innings this season and posted a 2.64 ERA.
Detroit placed infielder Colt Keith on the injured list with right rib cage inflammation. The move came one day after Keith was removed from the Tigers’ game against the Guardians with what was described as low back tightness.
It’s unknown whether Keith wull be available for the playoffs. Manager A.J. Hinch stated that the type of injury is “concerning this time of the year.”
Yesterday, Roki Sasaki threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen for Oklahoma City (AAA). Sasaki struck out two and touched 100 MPH during the outing.
Today, Nationals pitcher Josiah Gray went 2.2 IP (45 pitches) for Rochester (AAA). Gray struck out two and walked three.
Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor went 1-4 with an RBI for Syracuse (AAA).
The White Sox placed Martin Perez, who left his start on September 18 due to injury, on the IL with a shoulder strain.
Twins outfielder Matt Wallner was placed on the IL with a right oblique strain.
Yordan Alvarez, who suffered an ankle sprain earlier this week, was officially placed on the IL on September 19. It’s retroactive to September 16.
Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette was taking swings before the team’s game against the Royals. Bichette has been ruled out for the rest of the regular season but not the playoffs.
Junior Caminero did not start on September 19 thanks to a back injury.
Alec Bohm (Phillies), Tyler Mahle (Rangers), Scott Blewett (Orioles), Isaac Paredes (Astros), Kyle Finnegan (Tigers), Steven Cruz (Royals), and Nolan Schanuel (Angels) were activated off the injured list.
