On a light day across Major League Baseball, there wasn’t a ton of injury-related news. However, there were important updates nonetheless. Namely, the Red Sox will be getting left-handed hitting Masataka Yoshida back for the first time this season. And, 2025 AL All-Star Alex Bregman may be back soon, as well.

Updates on Red Sox’s injuries

Before the Red Sox started their series against the Rockies on July 7, Boston provided updates on notable injured players.

Outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida will make his 2025 season debut on July 9. Yoshida went on his planned rehab assignment last week, going 4-14 (.286) between Double and Triple-A across five games.

Yoshida was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

Meanwhile, Alex Bregman worked out on July 7 and will do so again on the 8th. From there, the Red Sox will decide on the next course of action.

Manager Alex Cora stated Bregman could return this coming weekend without needing a rehab assignment, although it’s unknown at this time whether that will happen.

Another D-Backs reliever on IL

The Diamondbacks are down another reliever. Shelby Miller, who’s been the team’s closer for most of 2025, went on the IL on July 7 (retroactive to July 6) with a right forearm strain.

It’s yet another hit to the Diamondbacks’ bullpen. Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk both underwent season-ending elbow surgeries.

Rehab assignments

Astros pitcher Luis Garcia, who hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since May 1, 2025, threw two innings with the team’s FCL affiliate. Garcia struck out four and gave up one hit.

It was Garcia’s first official action in over a year, as he last pitched in a game on July 4, 2024.

Other injury news

The Dodgers are down another infielder, as Enrique Hernandez landed on the 10-day IL with left elbow inflammation. It’s retroactive to July 6, 2025.

Hunter Strickland (Angels) was placed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation.

And as expected, the Brewers placed Rhys Hoskins on the IL with a sprained left thumb.

San Diego transferred Michael King (shoulder) to the 60-day IL.

Yu Darvish (Padres), Colin Holderman (Pirates), Connor Joe (Reds), and Casey Schmitt (Giants) were activated from the injured list.
