The Nationals have had a rough season this season, hence why the team fired manager Davey Martinez & front office head Mike Rizzo. One of Rizzo’s big moves in his last offseason was to re-sign Trevor Williams after a strong 2024 campaign. However, Williams, with a 6.21 ERA on the season, will look towards next season, as he’ll need season-ending surgery.
Less than a week before the 2025 All-Star Game, Twins representative Byron Buxton had the leave the team’s against the Cubs thanks to a left hand contusion.
Buxton too a pitch off his left hand from Cade Horton. He stayed in the game briefly, stealing a base before coming out of the game.
The Dodgers transferred Michael Kopech to the 60-day IL on July 9, a move needed to add Tyler Glasnow back on the 40-man roster. However, Kopech is also recovering from knee surgery.
Kopech needed surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The good news for the Dodgers is Kopech should return before the end of the 2025 season.
Trevor Williams‘ 2025 season is done.
The Nationals right-hander will get surgery to repair a partially torn UCL. Per Williams himself, it’ll likely be an internal brace, meaning a shorter window of recovery. However, UCL reconstruction has not been completely ruled out.
Williams had a career season in 2024 with the Nationals, which he parlayed into a two-year deal this past winter. Now, he’ll likely miss at least a healthy chunk of the second year of that contract.
Getting back to the Dodgers’ bullpen, Blake Treinen struck out two over one scoreless inning for Oklahoma City (AAA). Treinen topped out at 97 MPH with his fastball.
Tanner Houck struck out six over 4.1 IP for Worcester (AAA). Houck, who threw 76 pitches, topped out at 97 MPH with his sinker.
Rangers pitcher Jon Gray threw two innings (32 pitches) for Round Rock. Gray hit 95 MPH during the outing.
Boston placed reliever Nick Burdi on the 60-day IL with a right foot contusion.
Angels reliever Hunter Strickland was transferred to the 60-day IL with a shoulder strain. However, he should avoid shoulder surgery.
Chicago placed Porter Hodge on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement.
Miguel Andujar (Athletics) and Masataka Yoshida (Red Sox) were activated off the injured list.
