It was yet another busy day on the injury front. Junior Caminero, currently sixth in the Majors in home runs with 44, left the Rays’ game on September 17. Plus, Kyle Tucker is going to Florida for treatment on a calf injury that’s kept him out for most of September.
Rays third baseman Junior Caminero departed Tampa Bay’s game on September 17 against the Blue Jays.
The team announced that it’s due to back tightness. Caminero is day-to-day, per the team.
Willson Contreras‘ 2025 season is officially over. The Cardinals placed him on the 10-day IL with a right biceps strain, retroactive to September 16. St. Louis has already ruled him out for the year, even though he could technically return over the final weekend.
Manager Oli Marmol stated that the strain, labeled as mild, could get worse if he played through it more, hence the move.
Contreras stated that he’s been dealing with biceps soreness for a few weeks.
It was a celebration day for the Cubs, as the team clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2020. But aside from that news, the team also provided an update on Kyle Tucker.
Manager Craig Counsell stated that Tucker’s recovery has plateaued. Thus, Tucker traveled to his home state of Florida to see his own personal doctor and get treatment for a nagging calf injury.
Tucker went on the IL back on September 9. He hasn’t taken an at-bat since September 2.
Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman went 0-3 with a strikeout for Norfolk (AAA) on September 17.
Anthony Santander played his first game in the field since he started his rehab assignment on the 17th. With Buffalo, he went 0-4. Santander played the first seven innings before he was pulled for a substitution.
The Angels sent Nolan Schanuel to Salt Lake (AAA) for a rehab assignment. Schanuel last played in the Majors on August 23. He went on the IL in late August for a wrist contusion.
Milwaukee placed starter Jose Quintana on the 15-day IL with a left calf strain. It’s retroactive to September 15.
The Rays transferred shortstop Taylor Walls (groin strain) to the 60-day IL.
Atlanta did the same with Jake Fraley, on the injured list with a strained right oblique muscle.
Nick Mears (Brewers), Cole Ragans (Royals), and Luis Torrens (Mets) were activated off the injured list.
