The Blue Jays are starting to get healthier as the stretch run approaches, as Andres Gimenez works his way back from an ankle strain. However, George Springer is not ready yet for game action. Additionally, the Cardinals were without Willson Contreras on August 6.

Updates on Arenado & Contreras

Willson Contreras did not start the Cardinals’ final game against the Dodgers this year, as the Cardinals’ infielder deals with a stomach bug.

As for Nolan Arenado, who’s been on the IL since August 1 with a shoulder sprain, the former All-Star will head down to Jupiter, Florida. Arenado will partake in batting practice sessions and strengthening drills to rehab his injured shoulder.

Estrada to IL

The Rockies placed infielder Thairo Estrada on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.

It’s the third time Estrada has been on the IL this season. Estrada started the year on the IL recovering from a right wrist fracture. He then missed two weeks in July with a thumb strain.

Springer won’t go out on rehab just yet

The Blue Jays have Andres Gimenez out on rehab with Triple-A Buffalo. However, George Springer has not joined him just yet.

Springer, originally scheduled to play with Buffalo on the 6th, has not been cleared to play. Manager John Schneider stated that he believed Springer needed to undergo more tests before being ready for game action.

The Toronto outfielder is on the 7-day IL with a concussion.

Rehab assignments

Brandon Waddell (Mets) and Brady Basso (Athletics) were sent out on rehab assignments by their respective teams on August 6. Both Basso and Waddell were sent to Triple-A.

Waddell threw two innings (48 pitches) for the Syracuse Mets, striking out one over two frames.

Additionally, Ryan Mountcastle is in the lineup for the Norfolk Tides on the 6th. Mountcastle went 1-3 with a home run for Norfolk on the 5th but did not play the entire game.

Other injury news

The Diamondbacks moved Kevin Ginkel to the 60-day IL. Ginkel, originally placed on the IL retroactive to August 3, will not return this season.

Spencer Arrighetti (Astros) was activated off the injured list. Arrighetti had been out since early April.
