2025 Injury Report: Updates on Detmers, Peralta, Volpe

On a lighter day across Major League Baseball, there was some notable injury-related news. Anthony Santander started his rehab assignments, while two NL East lefties were activated from the injured list. Plus, an update on Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe.

Detmers placed on injured list

The Angels placed reliever Reid Detmers on the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation.

Given that Detmers won’t be eligible to return until the final weekend of the season, his year is likely over. The team had an MRI done to determine the extent of the injury.

Peralta on IL

The Rockies placed left-hander Luis Peralta on the 15-day IL on September 11.

The move is retroactive to September 8.

Volpe dealing with shoulder injury

Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe did not start for the second straight night, in what’s been a very difficult season for the third-year shortstop. However, there’s more to the story.

Manager Aaron Boone stated that Volpe has been playing with a partially torn left labrum for most of the season, dating back to May. He’s re-aggravated the injury at points this season, and the team’s tried to do maintenance.

Volpe recently received a cortisone injection for the injury.

Rehab assignments

Anthony Santander began his rehab assignment tonight with Buffalo (AAA). Santander went 1-3 with two walks and a home run. He played the entire game as the DH.

Cubs pitcher Michael Soroka worked 2.1 innings (38 pitches) out of the bullpen for Iowa (AAA). Soroka struck out three and averaged 95 MPH with his fastball, maxing out at 97 MPH.

Dane Myers and Connor Norby both rehabbed with Jacksonville (AAA). Norby went 1-3 with two RBI for the Jumbo Shrimp before being taken out. Myers, meanwhile, went 0-2 with two walks in his first four plate appearances.

Other injury news

Chase Burns & Graham Ashcraft (Reds), MacKenzie Gore (Nationals), Ryan Weathers (Marlins), and Alek Manoah (Blue Jays) were activated off the injured list.
