With one week left before the All-Star break, teams have taken a beating as of late. The Blue Jays and Brewers have added more names to the list of injured players across MLB this weekend. Andres Gimenez is out with a knee sprain, while a thumb sprain will keep Rhys Hoskins out until after the break, at the least.
Two days ago, Andres Gimenez left the Blue Jays’ contest against the Angels with an apparent ankle injury.
Officially, the Blue Jays placed Gimenez on the IL with a left knee sprain on July 6. As part of the team’s roster shuffle, Joey Loperfido was recalled to replace Gimenez.
Rhys Hoskins left the Brewers’ game on July 5 after hurting his thumb on a tag play at first base. Now, the Brewers know he’ll be out for a good period of time.
The Brewers are expected to place Hoskins on the IL with a Grade 2 thumb sprain (h/t Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) on July 7. The sprain was confirmed via an MRI.
In other news for the Brewers, Milwaukee transferred Garrett Mitchell to the 60-day IL to activate Brandon Woodruff. As noted last month, Mitchell is dealing with a shoulder injury.
It’s been a tough sled for Lane Thomas, the Guardians’ hero during last year’s ALDS.
Thomas landed on the injured list with plantar fasciitis on July 6, the second time he’s been on there this season, thanks to the aforementioned foot issue. He was originally placed on the IL back in March 2025 with a right wrist bone bruise, marking the third time Thomas has been on the injured list.
The Diamondbacks placed reliever Ryan Thompson on the 15-day IL with a right scapular strain, retroactive to July 5.
Royals reliever Daniel Lynch IV was placed on the 15-day IL with left elbow nerve irritation.
Atlanta transferred Spencer Schwellenbach, on the IL with a fractured elbow, to the 60-day IL.
