Tigers fans can breathe a little bit, even though Detroit has lost ground over the last few days for the top spot in the American League. Their ace, Tarik Skubal, should return next week. It’s one of several injury-related notes from September 13.
Red Sox reliever Liam Hendriks hasn’t pitched since May, thanks to a hip injury. But during his rehab, Hendriks suffered forearm soreness, which likely ends his 2025 campaign.
Hendriks stated that the injury is not ideal, especially since it could mean the end of the right-hander’s tenure as a Red Sox. He only made 14 appearances with Boston after he signed with the team in February 2024 on a two-year deal. The Aussie missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Red Sox and Hendriks hold a $12MM mutual option for 2026.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch stated that the team received good news on Tarik Skubal‘s left side (ribcage) injury, the one that forced him out of his start on September 12. Hinch declared that after speaking with the trainers.
It puts Skubal on track to make his next scheduled start next week.
Javier Baez, meanwhile, came in as a defensive substitution during Detroit’s loss to Miami on the 13th. Baez didn’t start after taking a foul ball to his face but was available off the bench.
The Cardinals officially shut Masyn Winn down, thanks to a partially torn meniscus in his right knee.
The team stated earlier in the week that Winn was playing through it. However, that won’t be the case over the final two weeks of the regular season.
Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander went 1-4 with a run scored for Buffalo (AAA). Yet again, Santander was the Bisons’ DH.
Reds pitcher Rhett Lowder struck out two over two (34 pitches) innings for Louisville (AAA). Lowder topped out at 95 MPH with both his four-seam and two-seamers.
Nationals pitcher Josiah Gray struck out two over 1.2 IP (32 pitches) for Harrisburg (AAA). Gray didn’t walk anyone but surrendered four hits.
Dodgers catcher Will Smith was placed on the 10-day IL with a right hand contusion.
Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca was placed on the 60-day IL with a left hamstring strain.
The Giants placed first baseman Dominic Smith on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.
Chase Dollander was placed on the 15-day IL with a left patella tendon strain, retroactive to September 10.
