Last winter, the Mets traded for ex-Rays outfielder Jose Siri, a move designed to give the team pop, defensive prowess, and for very little cost financially. However, after struggles in the outfield and a need to clear roster space, the Mets DFA’d the 30-year-old.
The Mets designated Jose Siri for assignment on September 24, a move made to open up a spot on the 26-man roster — and by proxy, also opened up a 40-man roster — for Tyrone Taylor. Taylor returned from the IL after a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse.
New York (NL) traded for Jose Siri in November 2024, in a two-player trade that sent relief pitcher prospect Eric Orze to the Rays. Siri wound up missing most of the season thanks to a tibia fracture. He only received 36 plate appearances this season.
When Siri was healthy, he whiffted 42% of the time at the plate. Strikeouts were a big problem in his game with Tampa Bay, and that remained true with the Mets. He only had two hits in his tenure with the team.
For whichever team acquires Siri, the 30-year-old will have two more years of team control. He does not have any options.
The Brewers designated Bruce Zimmermann for assignment after one start with the team. The left-hander gave up five runs over six innings against the Padres on September 23.
Before the start, Zimmermann spent his 2025 season in the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate. He struck out 109 over 138 innings with the Nashville Sounds.
Philadelphia designated Donovan Walton for assignment. The move was made to clear a spot for Edmundo Sosa, who returned from the injured list on the 24th.
Tigers third baseman Jace Jung was demoted to the FCL.
The Cubs optioned Jordan Wicks to Triple-A Iowa.
Drew Romo and Ryan Rolison of the Rockies were demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque.
