2025 Transactions: Rojas Back With Dodgers, Giants Sign Hentges

More and more relievers are coming off the free agent board. The Giants signed Sam Hentges on December 4, a former Guardian who pitched well in Cleveland before missing all of 2025. Division rival Los Angeles, meanwhile, is bringing back a 2025 postseason hero for one more year.

Hentges officially a Giant

The Giants announced on December 4 that the team signed left-hander Sam Hentges to a one-year deal. It’ll mark the first time that Hentges will pitch for a new organization, as he was with the Guardians since 2014, the year he was drafted.

Hentges was one of the more interesting players who were non-tendered in November. The left-hander had major shoulder surgery in 2024 to repair the right anterior capsule. Recovery from the injury cost him all of the 2025 campaign.

The 29-year-old was once a starter. Hentges started 10 games in his rookie year before transitioning into a reliever, a role that he succeeded in. He averaged over a strikeout per inning and limited well-hit contact; he gave up only five home runs over 114.1 IP between 2022 and 2023.

Hentges regularly used four pitches before the injury. He leaned heavily on a harder curveball that not only worked well as a swing-and-miss pitch but also one that he could spot and freeze hitters with.

Guardians sign Brogdon

Cleveland, meanwhile, signed reliever Connor Brogdon. Brogdon became a free agent earlier in the offseason after he was outrighted off the Angels’ 40-man roster.

Brogdon has had his ups and downs over the past few years. The 30-year-old pitched for three organizations over the span of two years, starting 2024 with the Dodgers and all of 2025 with the Angels after a brief stint with the Dodgers.

The ex-Angel was done in by the home run ball last season with the Angels. Brogdon gave up 11 over 47 innings. However, it’s not shocking to see him get an MLB deal. Brogdon’s fastball regularly sits in the mid-90s and hit as high as 98 MPH last year.

Rojas heads back to Dodgers

The Dodgers are reportedly bringing back Miguel Rojas on a one-year deal, which is expected to be his last as a Major Leaguer.

Rojas spent the past three seasons with the Dodgers, and he played over 100 games in all three. He’s generally been a good fielder but his bat saved the day for the Dodgers in 2025.

He hit the game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the World Series and made a quick stop in the infield later that inning to prevent Isiah Kiner-Falefa from scoring in the bottom half.

Per ESPN, Rojas will work in a player development role with the Dodgers once he retires.
