2025 Transactions: Sandlin Outrighted, Braves Shuffle 40-Man Roster

The first real week of the 2025-26 MLB offseason was a very quiet one, highlighted by awards announcements. There was some minor movement over the past few days, though. Most notably, the Blue Jays outrighted reliever Nick Sandlin off the 40-man roster.

Sandlin outrighted by Blue Jays

Toronto outrighted reliever Nick Sandlin on November 14 to Triple-A Buffalo. Since Sandlin has more than three years of MLB experience, he can reject the move to head to free agency.

Sandlin dealt with numerous injuries. The right-hander went on the IL in April with a lat strain and hit the injured list again in July with elbow inflammation. He last pitched in a game on July 7, 2025.

But when healthy, he was effective. The 28-year-old struck out 16 over 16.1 IP and netted a swing-and-miss more than 35% of the time this past season.

The Blue Jays acquired Sandlin last December in the deal that netted them Andres Gimenez.

Braves claim two

The Braves claimed two pitchers off waivers on November 13: left-hander Josh Walker and right-hander Carson Ragsdale.

This isn’t Ragsdale’s first rodeo with the Braves. Atlanta claimed him off waivers from the Orioles back in September. He was DFA’d shortly thereafter and claimed again by the Orioles in late September.

Walker, meanwhile, is a former Mets prospect who once pitched for new Atlanta pitching coach Jeremy Hefner. After the Mets DFA’d him in July 2024, he bounced around with the Pirates, Phillies, Blue Jays, and Orioles organizations.

The 30-year-old primarily works with a mid-90s fastball and a hard curveball.

Other moves

The Mets got relief pitching prospect Nate Lavender back from the Rays. Lavender was a Rule 5 Draft pick by Tampa Bay but missed all of 2025 on the IL.

Luis Guerrero (Red Sox) and Brian Van Belle (Rays) were also outrighted to their team’s respective Triple-A affiliate.

The Orioles signed reliever Richard Guasch to a Minor League deal. Guasch, who’s bounced around between the Athletics and Tigers organizations over the years, struck out 57 over 46 innings this past season for Double-A Erie in the Detroit organization.
