
The Tigers’ rotation has taken a beating in recent months. And on May 4, that rotation took the biggest hit yet. Tarik Skubal, who was scratched from his regularly scheduled start after a flare-up in an injury sustained last week in Atlanta, is expected to be out for at least two months.
Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony had to be removed from his team’s game on May 4 after he took a bad swing that caused him some clear discomfort. He was officially diagnosed with right wrist discomfort.
Anthony indicated that X-rays came back negative. However, the outfielder will return to Boston on May 5 to see a hand specialist. He believes that he’ll likely get an MRI.
Astros catcher Yainer Diaz was scratched from the team’s lineup on the 4th with an oblique injury.
Per manager Joe Espada, Diaz is expected to land on the IL with said injury (h/t MLB.com).
The big news on the day was from Detroit, as Tarik Skubal was placed on the IL, as he’ll need surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow. Skubal will likely be out for two to three months.
Mariners reliever Gabe Speier was placed on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation.
Austin Hays landed on the injured list with a left calf strain.
Red Sox reliever Danny Coulombe was placed on the IL with cervical spasms.
Giants pitcher Erik Miller was placed on the IL with a low back strain.
Additionally, Patrick Sandoval (elbow surgery recovery) and Tanner Murray (left shoulder dislocation) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Royals pitcher Noah Cameron was scratched from his start with back tightness.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider expects George Springer (toe) to return on May 5.
Cal Raleigh (side), Ben Rice (hand), Michael Harris II (quad), and Gleyber Torres (side) did not start on May 4.
