The Phillies saw Luis Arraez exit in the sixth inning on September 24, a big blow as Philadelphia needs to lock up a playoff berth over the next three days. Plus, updates on Alex Bregman, Trent Grisham, and Giancarlo Stanton.
Phillies infielder Luis Arraez departed with a left ankle sprain on the 25th. Arraez suffered the injury after he was forced out of the first base line and rolled it trying to get on the bag.
After the game, manager Don Mattingly indicated that X-rays on Arraez’s ankle came back negative.
Trent Grisham and Giancarlo Stanton both took swings at Yankee Stadium this week. Grisham did so on the 23rd and the 24th, while Stanton did on Thursday (h/t AP).
It’s another development as the Yankees could get more outfield help before the start of the playoffs.
The Yankees placed pitcher Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day IL with right biceps neuritis.
White Sox pitcher Luis Castillo was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement.
Braves pitcher Martin Perez was placed on the IL with low back inflammation.
The Angels placed reliever Ben Joyce on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement.
Seattle placed infielder Brock Rodden on the 10-day IL with left patellar tendon inflammation.
Astros outfielder Daulton Varsho was placed on the 10-day IL with what was described as left wrist inflammation. However, he does have a cyst that could require surgery.
Braves pitcher Hurston Waldrep was moved to the 60-day IL. The Giants did the same with Blade Tidwell. Baltimore shifted Kyle Bradish (abdomen) to there, too.
Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman resumed hitting on the 23rd, per manager Craig Counsell. In other news, Kevin Gausman indicated that his left shoulder was still sore after he left on the 23rd against the Marlins.
Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras indicated he won’t playing the club’s doubleheader on the 25th.
