It’s been an interesting few days for pitcher Jose Berrios. Berrios was poised to join Team Puerto Rico, then didn’t, and now his status for the start of the 2026 campaign is up in the air.
The Blue Jays announced that Jose Berrios would get his elbow looked at by Dr. Keith Meister, the latest in the series of strange injury-related incidents this week.
Berrios was penciled in to join Team Puerto Rico for the 2026 WBC quarterfinals after he was denied insurance early in the process. However, he was not cleared. The right-hander was scratched from his scheduled start this week against the Phillies. It was due to elbow inflammation.
Per the team, this is a separate issue from the elbow injury he had last season.
Additionally, the team provided an update on Shane Bieber. Bieber could throw off a mound in a week.
