The big injury news for February 17 came out of Twins camp. Pablo Lopez, who had an injury-riddled 2025 season, is set to miss all of the 2026 season. That is thanks to ligament damage in his right elbow.
Per Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll, Twins pitcher Pablo Lopez suffered a UCL tear in his right elbow. He’ll likely need reconstruction surgery and miss the entire 2026 season.
It’s a massive blow for the Twins, a team that has depth in terms of potential bodies. However, Lopez is the staff ace for a reason, as the right-hander has been one of baseball’s best starters when healthy over the last three seasons.
The word “when” is key there. Lopez had multiple IL stints last season, including for a teres major strain in his right shoulder and a forearm strain that ended his 2025 campaign in September.
Dodgers utilityman Tommy Edman will miss Opening Day 2026, per the team.
Edman had offseason ankle surgery. Manager Dave Roberts stated that Edman is doing light workouts, including swings from both sides and light jogging. However, he “obviously” won’t be ready, per the Dodgers manager.
Rockies 1B/DH Kris Bryant opened up about his struggles with his chronic problems, which forced him to the 60-day IL last week.
Bryant stated that he tried to rehab it through pilates and physical therapy. However, none of the treatments took well, as he noted that every time he tried to get going on his feet, he felt like he was going to fall.
The 34-year-old only had 41 plate appearances last season, his fourth year with the club. Since Bryant signed that seven-year, $182MM deal in 2022, he has never played more than 90 games in a single season.
Jhony Brito (Padres) and Logan Evans (Mariners) were placed on the 60-day IL as the two recover from their respective elbow surgeries.
