
May 18 marked the return of Ronald Acuna Jr., who was activated but did not play against the Marlins. However, the day saw Corey Seager, Jose Altuve (expected, given the news from May 17), and Kris Bubic land on the injured list.
Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber, who cooled off on May 17 with a 0-5 game after a three-home run stretch over his last three contests, was out of the team’s lineup on the 18th.
Per manager Don Mattingly, Schwarber was out due to an illness.
Twins outfielder Byron Buxton missed his fifth consecutive game with a hip injury.
The good news is that Buxton’s absence may end soon. Manager Derek Shelton indicated that Buxton was close to returning to Minnesota’s lineup. Buxton had been seen working out during the past weekend.
After missing the past few games, Corey Seager was diagnosed with back inflammation and placed on the IL. That move was made retroactive to May 15.
Royals pitcher Kris Bubic, originally scheduled to pitch on May 19 against the Red Sox, was placed on the IL with left elbow soreness.
Braves utilityman Kyle Farmer was placed on the IL with a strained right forearm.
Rockies outfielder Jordan Beck landed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Rays pitcher Cole Sulser was placed on the injured list with a low back strain.
Ben Casparius (Dodgers) and A.J. Minter (Mets) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Shawn Armstrong, Jeremy Pena, Joe Boyle, Jackson Holliday, Patrick Wisdom, and Ronald Acuna Jr. were activated off the injured list.
Per the New York Post, the Mets hope that Francisco Lindor can return in a month. Lindor has not played since April 22.
Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee was removed from the team’s game against the D-Backs with back spasms (h/t San Francisco Chronicle).
Red Sox outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela was out on May 18 with a tight hamstring.
