2026 Injury Report: Updates on Casas, Yesavage, Ryan

Things have not gone well for Triston Casas over the last two seasons. And, unfortunately, the hits continued for the first baseman, as he recently underwent wrist surgery. Plus, injury updates on pitchers Trey Yesavage & Joe Ryan.

Casas had surgery

The Red Sox announced that first baseman Triston Casas had arthroscopic left wrist surgery on August 6. It was a successful operation, per the team.

Casas last played in a Major League game in May 2025. He tore his patellar tendon last year, and then dealt with an abdominal strain, plus a wrist injury that occurred before this recent surgery.

Updates on Blue Jays’ injuries

Trey Yesavage had an MRI on his knee, which came after he was placed on the IL with a knee injury. And the rookie right-hander appears to have suffered a meniscus injury.

Manager John Schneider indicated that he hopes that Yesavage avoids surgery, although he acknowledged the possibility of it (h/t Sportsnet).

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., meanwhile, sat on August 6. Schneider indicated that Guerrero Jr. isn’t dealing with any major injury but was said to be tired & tight.

Ryan expected to go on IL

The Twins’ ace is expected to go on the IL, per manager Derek Shelton.

Shelton noted that Joe Ryan was diagnosed with a left glute strain.

IL moves

Luinder Avila (Royals) and Blake Dunn (Reds) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rays pitcher Steven Wilson was activated off the injured list.

Rehab assignments

Blue Jays pitcher Spencer Arrighetti suffered an apparent injury during his rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo, which ended after 39 pitches.

Reds pitcher Brandon Williamson‘s rehab start lasted 0.2 IP (39 pitches) with Triple-A Louisville. Williamson allowed two hits, two walks, and four earned runs. He averaged 93 MPH and topped out at 94 MPH.

Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone struck out three over 1.2 IP for Triple-A Oklahoma City (33 pitches). Stone averaged 94 MPH and topped out at 95 MPH.

Other notes

Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated that he hopes that Jake Bauers (abdomen) will be able to return against the Twins on August 7.

Reds manager Terry Francona stated that he thinks there’s a “slim chance” that Hunter Greene returns this season (h/t Fox 19).
