2026 Injury Report: Updates on Estevez, Polanco, Ponce

For the first time in years, Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce pitched in an MLB regular-season game after he spent several years in Korea and Japan. Unfortunately for the right-hander, it ended prematurely due to a knee injury.

Ponce carted off field

Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce was carted off the field at Rogers Centre on March 30 in the third inning after he hurt his knee fielding a ball.

Ponce will undergo an MRI, per Blue Jays manager John Schneider. The right-hander reportedly told Schneider that he hyperextended his knee (h/t Sportsnet (CA)).

Polanco dealing with Achilles injury

Mets infielder Jorge Polanco is dealing with a sore Achilles injury, per manager Carlos Mendoza.

Polanco still played on March 30, although he served as the team’s designated hitter once more.

Estevez still out with ankle injury

Royals reliever Carlos Estevez remained unavailable on March 30 thanks to an ankle contusion. Estevez remained in a walking boot after he was hit by a line drive on March 28.

X-rays on his ankle came back negative. However, Estevez was set to be evaluated for a potential IL stint (h/t MLB.com).

Other news

The Diamondbacks placed first baseman Pavin Smith on the IL with left elbow inflammation.

Astros pitcher Hayden Wesneski was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo is scheduled to make a rehab start on April 2 with Low-A Dayton. He is currently on the injured list recovering from a blister (h/t Fox 19).

Braves pitcher Spencer Strider will likely throw a live bullpen session with the team while on their upcoming road trip. However, he’s without a timeline at this time (h/t MLB.com).

Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon participated in a 50-pitch bullpen session on March 29. Manager Aaron Boone stated that Gerrit Cole will likely throw a one-inning session within the next few days.

As for Anthony Volpe, the Yankees’ shortstop is expected to face live pitching within the next week (h/t New York Daily News).
