As expected, the Cubs placed Dansby Swanson on the injured list, one of several injury-related moves for the club on the day. And Swanson could potentially be done for the rest of the regular season. On top of that, his old teammate from Atlanta, Max Fried, is back on the IL for the second time this season thanks to a familiar injury.

Rodon back, Fried to IL

The Yankees announced that Carlos Rodon will come off the injured list and start for the club on August 18 against the Orioles. But as one left-hander comes back, another heads to the injured list.

Max Fried was placed on the IL with a left elbow bone bruise, retroactive to August 14.

For Yankees fans, this may sound familiar — and that’s because it is. The last time that the Yankees were in Baltimore, which was in May, Fried suffered a left bone bruise that kept him out for two months.

IL moves

Twins outfielder Austin Martin was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

The Cubs placed two players on the IL. Dansby Swanson was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain and is expected to be out for four to six weeks, per manager Craig Counsell. Edward Cabrera, meanwhile, is back on the injured list with a right middle finger blister.

Additionally, Daniel Palencia was transferred to the 60-day IL. Palencia has been rehabbing in the Minors, making this more of a procedural move to clear a 40-man roster in the interim.

Other notes

Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson was scratched with shoulder soreness.

Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado (abdomen) was not in the lineup for the club on August 17.

Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman didn’t start for the fourth straight game, as he was scratched with shoulder inflammation.
