
It looks like the Padres will have to wait a little longer for Joe Musgrove to make his return in a regular-season contest. San Diego confirmed that Musgrove will begin the season on the IL, one of several injury-related notes on the day.
Jackson Holliday told the media that he’s feeling good in his recovery from the hamate bone fracture, and that he expects to take live at-bats.
Holliday is expected to begin the season with Triple-A Norfolk on a rehab assignment.
As for Jordan Westburg, the infielder told the media that he does not have a timetable to ramp up baseball activities.
Westburg is currently recovering from a partially torn UCL in his right elbow. He did not have surgery on it and instead went the PRP injection route.
It’s the start of spring for Ha-Seong Kim, who suffered a torn tendon in his right middle finger over the winter in Korea.
Kim arrived in Florida for Spring Training and has been cleared to start working in the field. However, he’s not swinging a bat yet (h/t MLB.com).
Padres manager Craig Stammen stated that pitcher Joe Musgrove will begin the 2026 season on the injured list.
Musgrove stated last week that he was in a holding pattern after he didn’t recover well from a spring outing.
He’s recovering from UCL reconstruction surgery, which cost him the entire 2025 season.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt stated that third baseman Jose Ramirez will not require an MRI on his shoulder.
Ramirez left Cleveland’s game on the 15th after he jammed his shoulder on a slide.
Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki was reportedly set for an MRI on the 16th (h/t 670 The Score).
Lawrence Butler is expected to make his Cactus League debut on the 17th and could play in the outfield later this week (h/t MLB.com).
Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler will face hitters again in a live BP session on March 18.
