It was not a good day on the injury front for several 2026 NL contenders. The Cubs lost Cade Horton to a forearm injury, while Juan Soto suffered a calf injury while running the bases in the Bay Area.
The big news from the day came out of San Francisco, as Mets outfielder Juan Soto left his team’s game against the Giants due to what the team has called right calf tightness.
Soto was seen grimacing while running the bases during the first inning when going from first to third.
It’s another blow to the Mets’ lineup, although a far more consequential one. Jorge Polanco did not start for the Mets on the 3rd, as he’s dealing with left Achilles tendinitis. And per manager Carlos Mendoza, Polanco suffered a setback.
The other big blow came to the Cubs. Cade Horton, who started for Chicago on April 3, was removed due to right forearm discomfort.
Horton stated that he had tightness in his wrist before it moved to the forearm. He wanted to be cautious and not hurt his arm any further, which prompted his removal.
Manager Craig Counsell stated that Horton will return to Chicago, a move that will allow him to get his arm checked out.
The Blue Jays sustained another injury. Catcher Alejandro Kirk was removed from Toronto’s game on the 3rd thanks to a thumb injury.
Manager John Schneider stated that he had no update on Kirk after the game.
Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage struck out three over 2.2 IP for Low-A Dunedin on April 3. Yesavage averaged 94 MPH during the outing.
Also in the Florida State League, Sawyer Gipson-Long pitched for Low-A Lakeland on a rehab assignment. The Tigers pitcher struck out two over 1.2 IP. He gave up four runs but all of them were unearned.
Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki went 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Suzuki played five innings before he was removed.
Masyn Winn left the Cardinals’ game on April 3 due to hip tightness.
The Diamondbacks placed outfielder Jordan Lawlar on the 10-day IL with a right wrist fracture.
Red Sox pitcher Johan Oviedo was placed on the 15-day IL with a right elbow strain. It’s retroactive to March 31.
The Rays placed pitcher Garrett Cleavinger on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.
Braves pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver was transferred to the 60-day IL.
The Rockies activated Mickey Moniak from the injured list.
