
With the 2026 All-Star Game break over, there were plenty of injury-related updates on the 17th of July. Some were good, and some were not. Plus, several embarked on new rehab assignments as the Minor League season resumed.
Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge‘s rib has improved, per imaging that was done during the break. However, the superstar slugger is not 100% and will need to wait for additional imaging.
As for Shohei Ohtani, he was in the Dodgers’ lineup and is expected to start on the 22nd against the Phillies. Ohtani was given a lubricating shot in his knee during the break.
Max Scherzer‘s rehab was shut down this week after he received multiple cortisone shots.
Per manager John Schneider, the Blue Jays pitcher received three cortisone shots in his right thumb on July 13.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated that Brandon Woodruff‘s shoulder “isn’t good,” or at least the prognosis on it, that is.
Woodruff was transferred to the 60-day IL just before the break with a shoulder injury. He would not be eligible to come back until early September, at the very earliest.
Astros outfielder Brice Matthews was placed on the 10-day IL with a knee sprain.
Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero was placed on the 15-day IL with appendicitis.
Brent Rooker was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Yankees pitcher Max Fried struck out three over three innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Fried, who tossed 52 pitches, topped out at 95 MPH and averaged 93-94 MPH on both his fastballs.
Dodgers INF/OF Enrique Hernandez went 1-3 with a double for Triple-A Oklahoma City. In that same game on the other side, Brendan Donovan went 0-4 with two strikeouts for Tacoma.
Guardians INF/OF Angel Martinez went 0-2 with Triple-A Columbus.
Rays reliever Steven Wilson walked two over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Toledo.
Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres struck out once and walked once for Low-A Lakeland. He went 0-3.
Dodgers reliever Edwin Diaz struck out two over a scoreless inning for Low-A Ontario.
Dodgers catcher Will Smith likely won’t be back until at least mid-August, per manager Dave Roberts.
Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick left on July 17 with shoulder soreness. Additionally, Logan Henderson battled forearm cramps against the Marlins.
