
A banged-up Athletics team were without two significant pieces on August 2. That was just one piece of injury-related news from the day. Additionally, we have updates on rehabbing pitchers Jackson Jobe & Clay Holmes, the latter of whom may have pitched for the last time in the Mets’ organization.
Nick Kurtz (thumb) missed his second straight game on August 2 against the Tigers.
Kurtz is reportedly expected to see a hand specialist on August 3 to determine the severity of his injury (h/t MLB.com).
Additionally, the Athletics were also without Jacob Wilson, who is dealing with patellar tendinitis in his right knee, per manager Mark Kotsay.
Royals pitcher Luinder Avila was placed on the 15-day IL with right forearm tightness.
Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez was placed on the 15-day IL with left knee inflammation.
Lenyn Sosa (Blue Jays), Jake Fraley (Rays), Matt Gage (Giants), and PJ Poulin (Nationals) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Mets starting pitcher Clay Holmes struck out three over 5.1 IP (73 pitches) for High-A Brooklyn. Holmes allowed seven hits and three earned runs.
Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe struck out five over four innings (69 pitches) for High-A West Michigan. Jobe allowed five hits and two walks.
Brewers reliever Joel Kuhnel allowed three hits and two earned runs over 0.2 IP in a rehab outing with Triple-A Nashville. He did allow one home run.
Athletics pitcher J.T. Ginn is scheduled to come off the IL this week. He’s currently listed to face the Reds on August 4.
Yankees pitchers Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt will face live hitters on August 3. And among that group they’ll face will include Giancarlo Stanton, who is also on the injured list.
Braves pitcher Spencer Strider‘s locker was cleared out, indicating that his 2026 season is likely over. Strider has been out since June with an elbow injury.
Marlins outfielder Jakob Marsee (back) did not start against the Mets, although he did come in as a defensive replacement.
Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing (arm) was scratched and did not play on August 2.
