The Houston Astros will be down two key players in the interim. Jeremy Pena, who missed significant time on the IL last year, is back on the injured list. Additionally, Tatsuya Imai is also on the IL after he left his last start against the Mariners early.

Astros banged up

We’ll start with Jeremy Pena, who will miss more time after he sat out on April 12. The Astros shortstop, originally diagnosed with a knee injury, was placed on the IL with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

Tatsuya Imai, meanwhile, was placed on the IL on the 13th with arm fatigue. He left his last start on April 10 after he gave up three earned runs over a third of an inning. Imai joins a lengthy list of Astros pitchers on the IL.

IL placements

The Orioles placed first baseman Ryan Mountcastle on the 60-day IL with a left foot fracture.

Phillies pitcher Jonathan Bowlan was placed on the IL with a right groin strain.

Dodgers reliever Ben Casparius was sent to the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

The Nationals, meanwhile, placed pitchers Ken Waldichuk (left forearm tightness) and Cole Henry (right rotator cuff strain) on the IL.

Shane Bieber (elbow inflammation) was transferred to the 60-day IL. That was a corresponding move to add new Blue Jay Lenyn Sosa to the 40-man roster.

Orioles pitcher Yaramil Hiraldo (shoulder inflammation) and Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows (radius fracture, concussion) were also transferred to the 60-day IL.

Other notes

Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe will start a rehab assignment on April 14 with Double-A Somerset.

Wyatt Langford did not start on the 13th. However, he is expected to return to the lineup on April 13 (h/t Dallas Morning News).

Merrill Kelly, on the IL thanks to recovery from a back injury, is scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks on April 14.

Hunter Gaddis (Guardians) and George Valera (Guardians) were activated off the injured list.
