2026 Injury Report: Updates on Nola, Jax, Springer

The Tampa Bay Rays had to piece things together on August 8, as starter Griffin Jax was unable to make his scheduled start against the Mariners. That was just one piece of the injury-related news from the day. Aside from injuries, Adley Rutschman played his first game as a Red Sox down in Triple-A on a rehab assignment.

Springer scratched

While the Blue Jays got outfielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. back on August 8, George Springer did not start on August 8 due to shoulder tightness.

However, he did come off the bench and scored a run for Toronto.

Pitcher injuries

The Rays scratched pitcher Griffin Jax from his scheduled start on August 8 due to right elbow discomfort.

Aaron Nola of the Phillies, meanwhile, was removed due to a knee contusion.

Rehab assignments

In his first game with the Red Sox’s organization, catcher Adley Rutschman went 1-2 with two runs scored for Triple-A Worcester. Rutschman, acquired in a trade with the Orioles at the deadline, picked up two walks and two RBI.

Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon struck out four over 2.2 innings (48 pitches) for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Rodon allowed three hits, walked two, and allowed three earned runs. He averaged 93 MPH and topped out at 94 MPH.

Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick went 0-2 for Triple-A Nashville.

Cardinals infielder Ramon Urias went 2-4 with two home runs for Triple-A Memphis.

Nationals pitcher DJ Herz struck out three over one inning for Low-A Fredericksburg.

Other notes

Brewers infielder Joey Ortiz was pulled against the Twins due to neck tightness.

While imaging came back clean for Carson Benge, the Mets rookie outfielder did not play on August 8. Benge, dealing with a wrist injury, exited early on August 7.

Pirates catcher Endy Rodriguez did not start due to left hip discomfort.
