At this point, it doesn’t sound like Ohtani will go on the IL; manager Dave Roberts, though, indicated that it’s not “impossible” to imagine him being placed there. However, it is another development, just after the club indicated uncertainty as to whether Ohtani will pitch again this year.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider indicated that Anthony Santander could play in Triple-A Buffalo next week on rehab assignment. The OF/DH has yet to play in any game this season.
As for Yesavage, Schneider expressed confidence that Trey Yesavage will return again this season (h/t Sportsnet). Yesavage is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on the 4th.
The Pirates placed pitcher Kirby Yates on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
Mariners outfielder Brennen Davis was summoned from the Minors and subsequently placed on the 60-day IL with a hamstring strain.
