Not the best day on the injury front. Two notables went down in the Cubs/Mets game, and the same can be said for the contest between the A’s & Giants. Plus, the Phillies scratched MLB home run leader Kyle Schwarber on the 23rd.

Tough nights in NY & SF

The Cubs & Mets each lost a player to injury during the team’s series opener on June 23. Juan Soto is day-to-day with back tightness. Meanwhile, the Cubs saw another pitcher go down, as Edward Cabrera suffered a left hamstring/adductor strain. It happened after he extended out at first base and wound up needing to be carted off.

Per USA Today, Cabrera will be placed on the IL on the 24th.

Meanwhile, the Bay Area series saw two infielders exit. Luis Arraez is dealing with a foot injury, while Zack Gelof suffered a hand laceration.

Abrams & Schwarber scratched

The Phillies scratched Kyle Schwarber before the team’s game on the 23rd with back tightness.

Per manager Don Mattingly, his back locked up several minutes before the scheduled game.

Schwarber wasn’t the only one scratched in that contest. On the other side, CJ Abrams was held out due to left side tightness.

IL moves

The Royals placed Maikel Garcia on the IL with a left hand muscle strain.

Rays pitcher Burch Smith (shoulder inflammation) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Francisco Lindor went 2-5 for Triple-A Syracuse on the 23rd. In that same game, Tyrone Taylor went 3-5 with a home run.

Hunter Greene struck out three over four scoreless innings (64 pitches) for Triple-A Louisville. Greene averaged 98 MPH and topped out at 100 MPH.

Royals pitcher Cole Ragans will likely need elbow surgery, per manager Matt Quatraro.
