The 2026 Major League Baseball season will begin shortly. At Passion MLB, as we have done for years, we're setting the stage for the season by introducing all 30 teams in Major League Baseball.
Today, the Giants are on the menu.
The 2025 season was a strange one for the San Francisco Giants, who were in the playoff race at various points throughout the season.
The Bay Area team hit their stride in mid-June, when a win against the Los Angeles Dodgers briefly put them tied for first place in the National League West. But a few weeks later, they found themselves nine games behind and ultimately finished with an 81-81 record.
Over the winter, the Giants acquired pitchers Tyler Mahle, Adrian Houser, Rowan Wick, and Jason Foley. Among position players, Luis Arraez, Harrison Bader, Sam Hentges, and Will Brennan will be heading to San Francisco.
On the other side of the spectrum, Justin Verlander, Wilmer Flores, Dominic Smith, and Tom Murphy have left the warm California sun.
The biggest moment of the offseason, however, came with the hiring of their manager, Tony Vitello, from the University of Tennessee.

Strengths and Weaknesses
The Giants will need Rafael Devers to return to his former form, because aside from him, the top of the lineup is solid but not exceptional. The emergence of young Bryce Eldridge is therefore a necessity.
And things aren't much better in the starting rotation, where everything will hinge on Logan Webb.
Robbie Ray posted a 5.54 ERA in the second half of 2025. For his part, Mahle has made a total of 24 starts over the past three seasons, while Houser has average career stats, as evidenced by his 4.06 ERA. Not to mention Landen Roupp, who averaged fewer than five innings pitched per start last year.
The bullpen, meanwhile, lacks depth and quality options.
Expectations for the 2026 Season
Another season hovering around .500 is likely what awaits the Giants, which would put San Francisco's front office in a difficult position at the trade deadline.
In the best-case scenario, while the Giants may not be able to compete with the Dodgers, they could still climb to second place in the division and fight for a playoff spot.
