2026 Transactions: Brewers Release McCullers, Nationals Recall House

In a month light on trades to this point — remember, the 2026 Trade Deadline is next week — one of the most notable ones was the trade that sent Lance McCullers Jr. from the Astros to the Brewers during the All-Star Game break. But on July 26, McCullers Jr. was released by the Brewers.

Brewers cut McCullers Jr.

The Brewers designated pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. for assignment on July 26, and ultimately, released him that day.

It ended McCullers Jr.’s very short stint with the organization. He only made two appearances with the Brewers, both in relief. McCullers Jr. walked five over 4.2 IP with Milwaukee after being acquired alongside Colton Gordon for Minor League Jadyn Fielder.

Recalls & options

Spencer Jones (Yankees), Brady House (Nationals), Garrett Stallings, Brian Serven (Athletics), Miguel Ullola (Astros), Alex Hoppe (Mariners), and Carson Whisenhunt (Giants) were recalled from the Minors.

Tristan Beck (Giants), Kai-Wei Teng (Astros), Nick Davila (Mariners), and Alec Gamboa (Red Sox) were optioned to the Minors.

Other notes

The Rangers released outfielder Jarred Kelenic.
