2026 Transactions: Marlins DFA Paddack, Tigers Sign DeJong

Chris Paddack’s second act with the Marlins organization didn’t go well. Paddack struggled to contain opposing teams across April and was officially DFA’d by the team on May 5. However, that move opened up a spot for a promising reliever in the Miami organization.

Marlins cut Paddack

The Marlins designated pitcher Chris Paddack for assignment.

Paddack had the fifth-highest ERA (7.63) in the Majors among starting pitchers with 20+ IP thrown thus far this season before the move. That start came after what was a dreadful last third of the 2025 season with Detroit. He rejoined the Marlins organization in February.

To replace Paddack, the Marlins promoted William Kempner, who was added to the 40-man roster this past November. His 34 strikeouts over 15 innings were easily the most among relievers in the International League this season. However, he walked 11 and conceded three home runs.

Mid-90s fastball that can get up to 98 MPH, plus a cutter and a sweeper.

Rays promote Solesky

The Rays selected Chase Solesky from Triple-A Durham. Solesky, who signed on a Minor League deal in January, had 27 strikeouts over 24 innings this season for the Bulls.

Solesky works with a lot of pitchers, including a low-to-mid-90s four-seamer and sinker, plus a cutter, a curveball, a sweeper, and a changeup.

DeJong lands with Tigers

The Tigers signed shortstop Paul DeJong to a Minor League deal.

DeJong was released by the Yankees in early May. He hit six home runs with New York’s Triple-A affiliate before he was cut by the Yanks.

The Phillies traded reliever Trevor Richards to the White Sox for cash.
