2026 Transactions: Nationals DFA Williams, Rockies Promote Adams

Weeks after the Rockies acquired pitching prospect Mason Adams from the White Sox, Colorado will see what he can do in the Majors. Adams was promoted on August 25, one of several notable moves on the day. Additionally, Trevor Williams was cut from the 40-man roster by the Nationals.

Williams cut by Nationals

The Nationals designated pitcher Trevor Williams for assignment.

Williams re-signed with the Nationals in December 2024 after the right-hander had a great season that year with the club. However, he posted an ERA north of 6.00 with the team last year before his season ended due to a partially torn UCL.

After a tough slog down in the Minors during his rehab assignment, Williams pitched relatively well in a relief role over the last month with the Nats. He struck out 22 over 17 innings, posting a 2.65 ERA.

That move allowed the Nationals to make room for Matt Waldron, activated after he was claimed off waivers several days earlier.

Adams selected by Colorado

The Colorado Rockies promoted prospect Mason Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Now 26 years of age, Adams was a 13th-round pick by the White Sox way back in 2022. Adams had a very good year in Triple-A Charlotte before Chicago traded him in August to land Brenton Doyle. He’s a heavy sinkerball pitcher, one who will sit in the low-to-mid-90s, and will change things up on hitters with a literal changeup, plus a sweeper, cutter, and curveball.

Adams struck out 13 over 13 innings with the Isotopes and didn’t allow a home run in three outings.

Recalls & options

Chad Dallas (Blue Jays), Jonathan Cannon (White Sox), Dax Fulton (Marlins), Rikuu Nishida (White Sox), and Nolan Gorman (Cardinals) were recalled from the Minors.

Braxton Fulford (Rockies), Blake Adams (Rockies), Leo Rivas (Mariners), and Ty Madden (Tigers) were optioned.

Other notes

The Yankees selected reliever Justin Topa from Triple-A.

Milwaukee designated shortstop Jonathan Ornelas for assignment.

Tigers outfielder James Outman was sent outright to Triple-A Toledo.

The Rays released outfielder Austin Slater.
