These past few days have seen a flurry of player movement, coinciding with the start of 2026 Spring Training. More free agents have come off the board over the last day, including Jose Quintana, Gary Sanchez, and Liam Hendriks.
Per multiple reports, the Rockies signed pitcher Jose Quintana to a one-year deal worth $6MM.
Quintana, who will be on Team Colombia during the 2026 World Baseball Classic, pitched relatively well for the Brewers last season. The left-hander posted a sub-4.00 ERA last season, even though his swing-and-miss and strikeout rates were in the bottom 10% of the league last season.
The 37-year-old is more of a neutral pitch, in terms of batted-ball profile. His groundball rates have fluctuated over the years, notable given that Quintana loves using his curveball, alongside his changeup and running two-seamer.
Per multiple reports, the Twins signed Liam Hendriks to a Minor League deal. It’ll also come with an invite to MLB Spring Training.
It’ll be a reunion of sorts for Hendriks, the journeyman reliever who was at one point a top starting pitcher prospect for the Twins in the early 2010s. Fast forward over a decade, and Hendriks will fight for a spot on the Twins’ roster as a reliever.
Hendriks, who was with the Red Sox over the last two seasons, missed most of last year thanks to hip problems.
The Dodgers re-signed Evan Phillips on February 11, months after the team non-tendered him.
John King, who was non-tendered by the Cardinals in November, signed with the Marlins, per ESPN.
The Milwaukee Brewers reportedly brought back Gary Sanchez to bolster their bench.
Thanks to injuries, Gary Sanchez’s lone season as an Oriole didn’t go great. He only had 101 plate appearances for the O’s last season. Two years ago, Sanchez hit 11 home runs over 89 contests for the Brewers.
Sanchez becomes the Brewers’ third catcher on the 40-man roster. William Contreras and Jeferson Quero are the other two. Quero, who will expand out of the zone frequently, has one option left.
