2026 Transactions: Twins DFA Woods Richardson, Mets Add Reliever

Perhaps the most notable move made on May 30 was the Twins opting to cut Simeon Woods Richardson off the team’s 40-man roster. Additionally, amidst the need for bullpen help, Tobias Myers was optioned to Triple-A by the Mets.

Twins cut Woods Richardson

The Twins designated pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment.

Woods Richardson, once a former top prospect in the Mets and Blue Jays’ systems, was acquired nearly five years ago in the Jose Berrios trade. He fit in for a couple of seasons as a back-end starter for the Twins.

But this year, Woods Richardson posted an ERA just shy of 8.00 this season.

Mets promote Perez, demote Myers

The Mets promoted left-handed reliever Cionel Perez on May 30, as New York (NL) selected his contract from Triple-A. Tobias Myers was optioned to Triple-A in the corresponding move.

Perez, a 30-year-old reliever, was signed by the Mets in early May after the Nationals outrighted him, and he subsequently opted to head to market. The left-hander struck out 10 over seven innings with Syracuse before he was called up.

As for Myers, he’s been effective as a multi-purpose reliever for the Mets. However, he became the odd man out for now, as the Mets had the option to send him down without designating him for assignment.

Recalls & options

William Kempner (Marlins) and John Klein (Twins) were recalled from the Minors.

Hunter Bigge (Rays) was optioned to Triple-A.

Other notes

Hayden Juenger had his contract selected by the Blue Jays. Austin Voth was designated for assignment.

The Mets designated pitcher Anderson Severino for assignment.
