Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees are under tremendous pressure to win the American League pennant this year. Their fans are unhappy with the front office for making minimal additions to the team during the offseason. Nevertheless, the Yankees started the 2026 campaign in superb fashion with a resounding 7-0 win over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park on Opening Night.
Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees manager, was understandably delighted with the excellent all-around performance of his team. The Yankees scored seven runs in the game without hitting a home run, while Aaron Judge had a forgettable hitless day. Boone believes they proved the doubters wrong by showing they overcame their opponents through various means.
“You want to get that first win, first hits,” Aaron Boone told reporters after the game. “You want to get into that normal rhythm of the season, which takes a little bit of time. Obviously, it was a great way to start things.

“On a night when we didn’t hit the ball out of the ballpark, we had a lot of good pressurized at-bats. We can beat you in a lot of different ways.”
The Yankees produced 12 base hits in total on the night, with everyone except Judge getting one. The three-time MVP made a rough start to the season after going 0-5 with four strikeouts.
Max Fried was the standout performer of the game, playing a pivotal role in helping the New York Yankees shut down the San Francisco Giants. Aaron lauded the performance from the left-handed pitcher.
“That’s what an ace looks like when he’s grinding. He set the tone for us,” Aaron Boone said about the Opening Night performance from the veteran southpaw.
Fried did not get off to a good start, however, but took control on the mound after the Yankees’ bats handed him a commanding lead to work with in the second innings. The 32-year-old posted 6.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two base hits and a walk.
