Aaron Judge Wins His Second MVP, Joins A Small List Of New York Yankees Legends
USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Judge’s latest MVP honor puts him among an elite list of New York Yankees legends.

Judge was unanimously named the American League winner of the MVP award on Thursday. It is the second time that he has won in his career, with the first coming in 2022. He joins Lou Gehrig (1927, 1936), Joe DiMaggio (1939, 1941, 1947), Yogi Berra (1951, 1954, 1955), Mickey Mantle (1956, 1957, 1962), Roger Maris (1960, 1961), and Alex Rodriguez (2005, 2007) as players to win multiple MVPs with the franchise.

The 2024 voting also made Judge the second player in franchise history to win the award unanimously. Mantle’s 1956 MVP is the only other time a Yankee player received every possible first-place vote.

Judge led the MLB with 10.8 wins above replacement, 58 home runs, 144 runs batted in, 133 walks, a .458 on-base percentage, a .701 slugging percentage, and a 1.159 OPS. He also batted .322 and led the Bronx Bombers with 180 hits and 36 doubles. The slugger was also named AL Player of the Month three times throughout the year.

In 2022, the captain set the Yankees’ single-season record with 62 home runs while also leading the majors with 131 RBIs, 133 runs, a .425 on-base percentage, a .686 slugging percentage, a 1.111 OPS, and a 10.5 WAR.

Five of the other six Yankees to win multiple MVPs with the team have been enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Judge’s second MVP and historic peak have inched him closer to eventually joining those greats in Cooperstown.
