Albert Pujols appears to be the increasingly inevitable choice for one of Major League Baseball’s open managerial positions.
Pujols had a positive meeting with Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno regarding the team’s managerial job, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The only real question appears to be whether Pujols and the Angels can work out a contract.
Sources: Alltime great Albert Pujols is the first choice of Angels/Arte Moreno to manage following positive meeting. They still need to work out contract but Pujols is expected to be given choice of coaches if they can finalize the $.

Pujols has been the favorite for the job ever since the Angels dismissed Ron Washington. He is still on the team’s payroll due to the personal services contract he agreed to as part of the free agent deal he signed with them prior to the 2012 season. Moreno is known to have a very positive opinion of him, and there really have not been any other notable candidates linked to the position.
Though Pujols has no previous MLB coaching experience, he has managed in the Dominican Winter League and showed interest in doing so at the MLB level as well. Hiring him as a first-time manager would be a risk, but his name alone carries more clout than most other first-time managers would.
The Angels are coming off a 72-90 season and do not appear close to being a contender. They have not made the playoffs since 2014 and have not posted a winning season since 2015.
