When Brian Snitker decided to step down as manager this past week, many speculated whether it was his decision or if the Braves essentially told him it was time for the organization to move on.
But Alex Anthopoulos crushed all speculation when he met with the media on Saturday, saying it was 100% Brian Snitker’s decision. If Snitker wanted to return for the 2026 season, he would have been back in the Braves dugout.
Anthopoulos said Snitker signed an 8-year contract three years ago, 3 to manage and 5 as advisor. But Anthopoulos insisted if Snitker had said this week he wanted to continue managing, that the job would be his. And he didn't leave wiggle room. Said it would've been his, period. https://t.co/ErTYr1qCPV

There’s no reason for Alex Anthopoulos to lie about this situation, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Brian Snitker would have been allowed back if he wanted.
Snitker has spent nearly 50 years in the Braves organization and will go down as the second-most successful manager in franchise history. He won six straight division titles, reached the postseason in seven straight seasons, and led Atlanta to its first World Series championship since 1995. None of that was going to be tossed aside because of one down season where everything went wrong. The least of the Braves’ concerns in 2025 was Brian Snitker.
If anything, the way the team responded down the stretch speaks volumes about the respect players had for Snitker. The Braves were damn near 20 games under .500 without anything to play for in September. Most clubs would have folded; instead, they rattled off a ten-game winning streak and played their best baseball of the season. That doesn’t happen if a team has tuned out its manager.
Brian Snitker earned the right to make his own decision about his future, and the Braves rightly gave him that opportunity. That’s how it went down, and that’s exactly how it should have.
