The Chicago Cubs have heightened expectations this year, and much of that optimism stems from the team’s offseason in which the front office added a brand new superstar to the lineup in third basemanAlex Bregman.

Bregman agreed to a five‑year, $175 million deal with a no‑trade clause, something his former team, the Boston Red Sox, was unwilling to offer. Chicago swooped in, and now the 31‑year‑old veteran joins a young, talented core as he looks to help lead the Cubs to the MLB playoffs for a second straight season.

Bregman is the right player to do so. Last year in Boston, he posted a .273 batting average, .360 on‑base percentage, .821 OPS, 18 home runs and 62 RBIs across 114 games despite missing time with a right quad strain.

As Bregman prepares for his first year calling Wrigley Field home, he continues to elevate his profile not only in Chicago but across the country. He is one of the most accomplished players in the sport as a three‑time All‑Star, Gold Glove winner, Silver Slugger recipient and two‑time World Series champion.

He also suited up for Team USA at this year’s World Baseball Classic and helped lead the Americans to the championship game.

With his presence continuing to grow, Bregman announced a new move off the field on Wednesday, one day before Chicago’s season opener. He took to Instagram to reveal that he had joined a new team, not a baseball club but a coffee brand called Sport Coffee.

“Another championship addition is here. We’re hyped to announce Alex Bregman as the latest member of our @sportcoffee team. A better coffee, just in time for baseball season. Welcome @abreg_1 ‼️,” the caption read in a collaborated post with the brand.

Sport Coffee, launched in May 2024, is primarily backed by NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, who serves as the lead investor and a key partner.

Now Bregman enters the mix as he continues to expand his off‑field ventures while preparing for his first season in Chicago, which will also be his eleventh year in MLB. Bregman has carried high expectations ever since the Houston Astros selected him second overall in the 2015 MLB Draft.

The Cubs believe that pairing Bregman’s pedigree with their emerging core gives them one of the most complete lineups in the National League.
